A.N.S.A Part I, 2018

A.N.S.A which stands for “A New Society for Artists” was a runway performance art piece  featuring dolls made by Sabrina Yegela.

It was a response to my frustrations with legislation surrounding the art industry and the general restriction of freedom of speech and creativity within Tanzania. Part I is an introduction to the narrative – a fictional account of Dar es salaam in the year 3009.

A.N.S.A is a call for rebellion. There is a state of tension and anxiety induced by the piece, but there is also an underlying feeling of resistance and hope, with a message that creativity cannot and will not be restricted.
